It is colloquially
termed a web address, is a reference to a web resource that specifies its
location on a computer network and a mechanism for retrieving it. A URL is a
specific type of Uniform Resource Identifier (URI), although many people use
the two terms interchangeably.
It is the address of
a resource, which can be a specific webpage or a file, on the internet. It is
also known as web address when it is used with http. It was created in 1994 by
Tim Berners-Lee.
It
is used to identify the resource present in any network. It is unique for all
the devices present in internet.
Example:
https://www.google.com, https://www.youtube.com
When
you enter any URL in your browser's address bar, you will be redirected to the
IP address mapped with the URL. This is known as DNS (Domain Name System).
